David Roy – a criminal defence solicitor for individuals and businesses.
David Roy is a Senior Solicitor, in our Complex Crime Department, based in our Birmingham office. David heads up the Midlands Complex Crime Team.
His focus is on advising businesses and individuals in high value and complex financial crime and regulatory investigations and prosecutions.
David represents clients during the investigation stage, attends at interviews with investigators and engages with prosecutors to avoid matters proceeding go court if at all possible. If a case does go to court, David handles the case preparation and attends hearings in both the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court. If the decision of the court requires challenge, David also handles applications to the Court of Appeal.
Prior to joining Reeds, David was Head of Corporate Protection at London firm Axiom DWFM.
David was a founding partner at Birmingham firm Jonas Roy Bloom where he established and led the Business Crime Team. He then started the Birmingham office for national firm Cartwright King where he was head of Tax Investigations and Prosecutions. He was also a partner at commercial firm Shakespeare Martineau.

NOTABLE CASES
R v S: “The Kieran Fallon horse race fixing trial”. Following submissions by the defence teams, the judge stopped the trial. David acted as litigator.
R v D: “Operation Hornet” involved the collapse of Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) following the criminal conduct of senior bank employees. David acted as litigator.
FAPL v K: Prosecution by the Premier League involving the illegal broadcasting of football matches with an estimated £12million loss of revenue to the FAPL. David acted as litigator.
HMRC v R: Complex contempt of court proceedings regarding the obtaining of search warrants in a substantial offshore investment fraud investigation. David acted as litigator. The client was cleared of any involvement and costs obtained against HMRC.
Environment Agency v S: Prosecution involving failure to clear a commercial waste site. David negotiated with the prosecution resulted in the prosecution being withdrawn.
